What’s Included and What You’ll See
Vatican Museums (about 1h15). Enter through a dedicated entrance, bypassing the worst of the crowds. Your guide takes you straight to the highlights: the Gallery of the Maps, the Gallery of the Tapestries, and the Pinecone Courtyard, skipping the miles of galleries you don’t need to see.
Sistine Chapel. Your guide explains Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam” and “The Last Judgment” outside the chapel (no talking is allowed inside), then you enter to admire the frescoes in silence.

- Wednesday mornings. St. Peter’s Basilica is not accessible on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience. On Wednesdays, you get morning access to the Basilica only in specific cases, otherwise the Vatican Museums portion is extended.
- Dress code enforced. Shoulders and knees must be covered for both the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica. You will be refused entry otherwise.
- Book the morning tour. Reviewers strongly recommend the earliest slot. The Vatican gets extremely crowded and hot by midday, and the museums have no air conditioning.
- Lots of walking. Expect about 2.5 miles (3 km) on foot over 3 hours. Not ideal for children under 8. Not wheelchair or stroller accessible.
- Possible closures. The Basilica and Sistine Chapel can close last-minute for religious ceremonies. If this happens, the operator extends the museum tour; no refund is given for closures beyond their control.
